How to use this tool

1

Enter Celsius temperature

Type the oven temperature in °C from your recipe. The Fahrenheit result updates instantly.

2

Read °F, fan oven, and gas mark

The result shows the Fahrenheit equivalent, the fan oven temperature (−20°C), and the nearest gas mark.

3

Use the reference table

Click any temperature in the reference table to use it. The table covers all common baking temperatures from 50°C to 250°C.

Tips

  • For fan ovens, subtract 20°C from the conventional temperature (e.g. 180°C conventional = 160°C fan).

  • Oven thermometers are worth buying — most domestic ovens run 10–20°C off the dial setting.

  • When in doubt, check with a cake skewer or meat thermometer rather than relying purely on temperature and time.

About this celsius to fahrenheit tool

Converting Celsius to Fahrenheit for oven temperatures is one of the most common kitchen calculations. British and European recipes use Celsius; American recipes use Fahrenheit. The formula is: °F = (°C × 1.8) + 32. So 180°C becomes (180 × 1.8) + 32 = 356°F.

The reference table on this page shows all common baking temperatures with their Fahrenheit equivalents, gas mark, fan oven setting, and oven type description. 180°C (Gas Mark 4, 356°F) is the most important temperature to memorise — it is the standard for Victoria sponge, chocolate cake, cookies, muffins, and most everyday baking.

Fan ovens (also called fan-assisted or convection ovens) circulate hot air and cook more efficiently than conventional ovens. The standard adjustment is to reduce the temperature by 20°C (or 25°F) when using a fan oven. So a recipe calling for 180°C in a conventional oven becomes 160°C in a fan oven. Many modern ovens have both conventional and fan settings.

It is worth noting that domestic ovens are rarely perfectly accurate. Research suggests most home ovens run between 10–25°C off their dial temperature. An oven thermometer (inexpensive and widely available) takes the guesswork out of baking by showing the actual temperature, not the dial setting.
