About this tablespoons to ml tool

Tablespoons and millilitres are both common measurements for small liquid quantities in cooking. Converting between them is useful when a recipe uses tablespoons but your measuring equipment shows millilitres, or when you want to scale a recipe precisely.

The standard tablespoon size is 15ml in the UK and US. However, Australian tablespoons are 20ml — one third larger. This difference is significant: 3 Australian tablespoons equals 60ml, while 3 UK tablespoons is only 45ml. Always check the recipe's origin when tablespoon measurements are used.

For liquid measurements, millilitres are more precise than tablespoons since they can be measured accurately with a measuring jug. For small amounts like vanilla extract or lemon juice, a tablespoon measure is often more practical than trying to read a tiny ml marking on a jug.

Remember: 3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon. So if you have a teaspoon measure but not a tablespoon measure, use 3 level teaspoons (3 × 5ml = 15ml) as an accurate substitute.
