About this cups to ml tool

Converting cups to millilitres is straightforward once you know which cup size you are working with. There are two common cup sizes: the US cup (236.6ml) used in American recipes, and the metric cup (250ml) used in the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

The difference — about 13ml per cup — is small enough to ignore in most everyday cooking but can accumulate when scaling large quantities. A recipe calling for 4 US cups of liquid uses 946ml, while 4 UK/AU cups is exactly 1 litre.

Millilitres are the preferred measurement for liquids in metric kitchens. If you have a measuring jug marked in ml, this converter tells you exactly how far to fill it for any cup amount. It also works in reverse: pour a known volume and check the cup equivalent.

Most measuring jugs sold in the UK and Europe have ml markings. For baking, measuring liquids by ml using a jug or kitchen scale (1ml of water = 1g) is more accurate than using cup measures, which can be imprecise if not filled correctly.
