How to use this tool

1

Choose direction

Select "Oven → Air Fryer" to convert a conventional oven recipe to air fryer settings, or "Air Fryer → Oven" for the reverse.

2

Enter temperature and time

Type the temperature in °C. Optionally enter the original cooking time in minutes — the adjusted air fryer time will appear alongside the temperature result.

3

Use the reference table

The reference table shows common oven temperatures with their air fryer equivalents, heat descriptions, and example foods. Click any row to use that temperature.

Tips

  • The standard air fryer rule: reduce oven temperature by 20°C and reduce cooking time by 20%. Start checking food early on the first attempt.

  • Air fryers vary between brands — compact models run hotter than larger basket types. After the first cook, adjust by 5–10°C to suit your specific appliance.

  • Do not overcrowd the basket. Air fryers cook by circulating hot air around food; too much food blocks airflow and results in uneven cooking.

  • Preheat your air fryer for 3–5 minutes before adding food, just as you would a conventional oven, for more consistent results.

About this air fryer converter tool

Air fryers cook by circulating very hot air in a compact, enclosed space — the same principle as a fan (convection) oven, but in a much smaller chamber. Because the heating element and fan are closer to the food, an air fryer runs hotter and faster than a conventional oven at the same temperature setting. The standard adjustment is to reduce the temperature by 20°C (35°F) and reduce cooking time by approximately 20% compared to a conventional oven recipe.

This converter applies the standard −20°C rule to give you an air fryer temperature and an adjusted cooking time estimate. These are starting points — all air fryers behave slightly differently depending on their size, wattage, and basket design. Compact 2–3 litre models often run hotter than larger 5–8 litre models. The first time you cook a recipe in your specific air fryer, start checking the food a few minutes before the calculated time.

Air fryers perform best with foods that benefit from dry, circulating heat: chips, chicken pieces, sausages, roasted vegetables, fish fillets, and reheated leftovers. They are less suited to dishes with a lot of liquid, very large joints of meat, or foods that need steam (like some bread). For baked goods like muffins or small cakes, the air fryer works well but check for doneness earlier than the recipe states.
